Swedes return to Hong Kong

08/12/2006 The trade route to China is open again but this time with a difference.

On 12 September 1745, the trading ship “Götheborg” ran aground just outside Gothenburg. It was fully laden with goods such as tea, porcelain, silk and spices, and had almost made it back home after her third voyage to China, which had taken two and a half years.

In 1986, a marine archaeological excavation began that revealed a bygone century, adventurous voyages and trade with China that in turn created the dream of rebuilding the ship. The dream was fulfilled and in 2005 the new “Götheborg” set sail for China, just as the original did.

What has any of this to do with Hasselblad? Apart from the fact that the new ship was built just along the waterfront from the Hasselblad facility, it has now been involved in introducing the H3D and the new ‘Victor by Hasselblad’ magazine. A group of Chinese photographers was invited to this special occasion when the ship was moored in Hong Kong recently. After a demonstration of the new Hasselblad products they were invited on board. A great deal of interest was shown in this magnificent vessel and, quite naturally, in what Hasselblad had to offer too.
